Income Distribution

Households are often divided into quintiles according to their gross income. Each quintile represents 20%, or one fifth, of all households. This method of showing the distribution of household income does not take into account the number of wage earners in the household. Households with two wage earners are disproportionately represented in the upper two quintiles.
