Annual Dropout Rate
The annual dropout rate indicates the number of dropouts in any given year. The Cohort On-time Graduation Rate is the number of seniors that were expected to graduate that year, based upon their enrollment year as freshmen. These data are not available prior to the 2002/03 school year because of The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 which disaggregated reporting on graduation rates and applied new definitions to reporting. Also, students who received an IEP (Individual Education Plan) or a GED, as well as students whose status was Unknown, are considered dropouts. In Pierce County, the annual dropout rate fell from 7.7% in 2001-02 to 4.5% in 2006-07. Since that time, the annual dropout rate has held fairly steady, rising only slightly during the past couple of school years. The annual dropout rate for the 2009-2010 was 4.5%, slightly lower than the 2008-2009 school years rate of 4.8%. |
