Language Spoken at Home

The language spoken at home represents Pierce County’s rich and diverse immigrant population and their language preferences at home.  According to the 2006-2008 (3-year Estimate) American Community Survey, in Pierce County nearly 13% of the population speaks a language other than English at home compared to Washington State as a whole where nearly 17% of the population speaks a language other than English at home. 


To compare counties like ours, in Spokane County only 7% of the population speaks something other than English at home, and in Snohomish County 16% speak something other than English at home.  In Snohomish County 5.2% speak Spanish at home and in Spokane County 2.2% speak Spanish at home.
