Specialized Transportation Service (Shuttle)

Pierce Transit’s SHUTTLE provides transportation to individuals who, due to a disability, are unable to use, or need assistance to access, fixed route bus services. SHUTTLE has eligibility standards and service characteristics designed to meet the complementary paratransit requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

In recent years, Pierce Transit has focused on providing travel-training programs for SHUTTLE patrons who are capable of riding fixed route services. As a result, SHUTTLE boardings declined for several years but the numbers began to grow again during 2006.  In 2009, there were over 460,000 boardings for specialized transportation services.  In 2010, SHUTTLE ridership decreased by about 4 percent to 446,451 boardings.
